Job Highlights

Responsible for the safe and efficient repair and maintenance of the plant equipment.  Perform preventative, predictive and routine maintenance tasks, troubleshoot issues, repair equipment failures, and resolve maintenance concerns on a scheduled or emergency basis t ensure maximum production quantity and quality.  The position requires an individual with an advanced degree of problem solving ability.   When confronted with a problem with multifaceted aspects, the individual must be able to break the problem down into smaller more easily solved problems and then create a solution that encompasses the entire scope of the problem.


Places safety first with respect to all activities while on company premises.

  • Be able to handle multiple projects on multiple sites simultaneously
  • Assesses feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering tests, products, and equipment
  • Facilitates the implementation of BAT (Best available Technology) as applicable
  • Develops key performance indicators (KPIs) and management dashboards based on strategic objectives and performance improvement goals
  • Draws conclusions based on research activity and outcomes; provides recommendations with potential impact to production safety and production operations as needed.
  • Works effectively as part of an engineering team as well as working independently to accomplish established goals.
  • Participate as an active member of MOC, HAZOP, PSSR and PHA evaluation teams contributing technical support at a plant level with an emphasis on instrument, process controls and reliability and repeatability.
  • Participate and or direct plant level problem solving teams on an as needed basis
  • Ability to work well and professionally communicate with others from hourly workers to senior managers
  • Determine the specifications for new instrumentation taking into account safety and the process requirements
  • Create instrument  related portions of operating procedures
  • Continually develop and maintain Mechanical Integrity requirements for instrumentation
  • Trouble shoot Instrumentation installations to identify functional problems and resolve problems
  • Support plant electricians in determining root cause of failures
  • Electrical & Automation Background with knowledge of the NEC
  • Knowledge of specification and installation of new instruments
  • Review the quality of Electrical repairs to insure safety & quality of repair
  • Create Calibration requirements from a process, quality and safety aspect with assistance from PCT Engineer, process engineer and project engineer
  • Where instrumentation shows through documented calibration records to be insufficient for the process, initiate the replacement process
  • Insure integrity of plant Ethernet system
  • Specifying functional requirements for New Instrument projects
  • Participate in  High Voltage Electrical preventive maintenance programs
  • Develop cost reduction programs independently or as part of a team effort
  • Manage plant instrumentation projects from specification of instruments to final installation
  • Interact with vendors and contractors as needed
  • Evaluate historian trends to improve the cost profile of the facility
  • Participate in group root cause analysis of process problems
  • Support new DCS initiatives for alarm control (AMS), wireless transmitters, predictive instrumented maintenance programs
  • Interact with vendors and contractors as needed
  • Review new and existing Delta V programing code to insure software is appropriate and fully functional
  • Monitor alarm notifications to determine cause of alarms in the effort to reduce the frequency of nuisance alarms
  • Manage Instrumentation projects from instruments selection to installation independently or as part of a larger team
  • Evaluate historian trends to help Identify root causes of process problems – support software add on programs
  • Identify near miss incidents and follow up with problem solving plan
  • Work with other engineers to insure new processes have all instrumentation requirements addressed
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well solo or in a dynamic team environment
