Job Highlights

  • Lead the troubleshooting of incidents where material being produced does not meet, for whatever reason, the specifications required for release for sale. Work with appropriate individuals such as production engineers, operators, quality personnel, applications technologists, corporate analytical services, product managers, and procurement specialists to identify root cause for various product manufacturing issues, whether related to raw materials, analytical/performance test equipment, production equipment, or production processes.
  • Propose corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence of production issues.  The individual will also be responsible for providing, when appropriate, suggestions for rework of non-conforming product to allow compliance to sales specifications and/or provide recommendations for the proper disposal of product that has been deemed permanently nonconforming.
  • Over time, develop an expertise in the various components of the successful production of products and proactively identify options for improvement in the consistency of production to decrease the chance of future production issues.
  • Support efforts in the quality lab to improve existing systems, identify new technologies to improve efficiencies in testing, and qualify new instruments.
  • Support plant audit activities and safety initiatives, and take a significant role in supporting process hazard analysis (PHA) activities.  The Plant Chemist is expected to support a safe work environment and collaborate with HSSE to plan and implement safety protocols.

  • B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
  • Must have strong practical experience within a chemical production quality laboratory environment and possess a strong “hands on” philosophy and work ethic.
  • Experience in industrial lubricant formulations/chemistry and performance tests used to characterize formulated lubricants (especially those tests commonly used in an industrial lubricant manufacturing quality laboratory) is highly desirable.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and mechanical inclination.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within, and interface with, multidisciplinary teams is a must.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage and prioritize multiple short term projects, each potentially containing a significant number of individual tasks being conducted by multiple departments/individuals is required.
