Job Highlights
The Nurse Practitioner in Occupational Medicine is critical in safeguarding employee health and safety within a chemical manufacturing environment. This position delivers advanced clinical care for work-related injuries and illnesses, supports regulatory compliance, and contributes to developing proactive health and wellness strategies across multiple sites. Primary responsibilities include:
- Manage and operate on-site medical clinics, ensuring timely and effective evaluation, treatment, and follow-up care for occupational injuries and illnesses. Coordinate care in alignment with industry-specific health protocols, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
- Provide clinical support and case management for short-term and long-term disability programs, including coordination of medical evaluations, documentation review, and communication with employees, providers, and HR. Facilitate safe and timely return-to-work processes in compliance with company policies and regulatory guidelines.
- Manage, coordinate, and implement comprehensive medical surveillance programs, including but not limited to Bloodborne Pathogens, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection, and lead and asbestos exposure monitoring. Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and industry regulations while supporting workforce health through risk-based surveillance and ongoing employee education.
- Conduct drug and alcohol screenings as needed, including the administration and oversight of the required 25% quarterly random testing, in accordance with DOT, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct new hire physicals and collaborate with physical therapists and work hardening providers to support employee readiness and safe job placement. Partner with Safety and Human Resources to develop and implement Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) aligned with job demands and workplace safety standards.
- Provide on-call support for weekend and after-hours medical inquiries related to work-related injuries, ensuring timely clinical guidance and coordination of appropriate care.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Master's degree required with a strong preference for a DNP. ER and trauma experience is a plus.
- 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Proficient in assessing, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of medical conditions across various patient populations.
- Ability to analyze complex medical information and make independent, evidence-based decisions in fast-paced or high-pressure environments.
- Skilled in building trust and rapport with patients, ensuring that care plans are tailored to individual needs, preferences, and health goals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Strong ability to maintain accurate, timely medical records and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational policies.
- Ability to lead healthcare teams, mentor junior staff, and contribute to continuous improvement in care delivery.
- Efficient in managing multiple patient cases and priorities, ensuring timely follow-ups, and maintaining a structured work environment.
- Comfortable with electronic health records (EHR) systems and medical software for patient management, prescription tracking, and clinical documentation.
