Job Highlights

  • Analyze market structure, trends, technical developments and regulatory trends that impact competitiveness and/or affect availability and delivered cost of materials and services.
  • Develop and recommend short and long term procurement strategies aimed at meeting BU/GF material or service requirements in a manner that provides security of supply of timely and cost competitive materials or services of the appropriate quality.
  • Coordinate strategies within GPL regionally or globally to enhance corporate buying power and lead the effective implementation of such strategies.
  • Communicate procurement strategies to procurement team and stakeholders.
  • Direct, motivate and ensure performance of team of procurement professionals, including recruitment, performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback, mentoring the team and taking necessary corrective actions to correct performance issues.
  • Perform leadership roles ensuring that the site procurement team follows corporate guidelines.
  • Negotiate resolution of disputes, participate and provide guidance to major supplier negotiations.
  • Communicate plans and roll-out new supplier programs to fully implement procurement strategies, including ensuring compliance to contractor safety management and sustainability goals.
  • Manage ongoing strategic supplier relationships.
  • Comply with all established departmental KPI’s with regards to supplier evaluations, supplier visit reports, cost reduction reporting, TfS assessments, Browz compliance etc.
  • Participate in Procurement and Site Management meetings and provide periodic reporting to corporate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field; Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or engineering is a plus
  • A minimum of 10+ years relevant procurement experience or an MBA/MS with at least 5 years of leadership experience at a plant site managing procurement professionals. Professional Certification is a plus. 
  • Demonstrated experience in managing project procurement for medium to large capital projects in the process industry. Knowledge and relationships with EPC companies is preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic chemical manufacturing processes and of the major factors that influence chemical markets and prices is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) are required.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver persuasive argumentation in pricing and contract negotiations is required.
  • The ability to influence and persuade individuals at all levels of the LANXESS organization to gain support for key procurement initiatives.
  • Thorough understanding of the typical language found in procurement contracts and sensitivity to the clauses having particular importance to the buyer is essential.
  • Proven organizational skills to manage multiple projects and teams, with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to organize diverse information, analyze and resolve disputes, understand internal customer requirements, make independent decisions, and display strong interpersonal and communication skills with individuals at all levels of LANXESS and supplier organizations.
  • Basic understanding of management accounting principles and financial analysis skills are essential.  Understanding of chemical processes, engineering or construction processes is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills and high skill level using Power Point, Excel, SAP BW reports, Ariba and Proinfo tools
