The Elmira facility is a state of the art production facility used to manufacture synthetic lubricants and additives for lubricants, plastics and rubber. In addition to the main production facilities we have a comprehensive wastewater treatment system that is used to treat all of the process wastewater that is generated on site, and a groundwater treatment system to remove historic contaminants prior to discharge. The Elmira site is also home to a pilot plant, which is used by our scientists and engineers to develop and test new products and production processes.
Situated on 75 acres (of which 22 acres are used for operations), the manufacturing facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our hourly employees are represented by the United Steelworkers Union.
Both sites (Elmira and West Hill) are registered under the ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 14001 environmental management standards.
Job Highlights
The incumbent will be responsible for the daily operation of boilers, waste water system, ground water system and refrigeration systems. Perform daily rounds and record findings in shift logs. They will follow instruction from the Chief Operating Engineer by completing requested duties, inspections, to meet shift operational requirements. The position requires the incumbent to do scheduled rounds, take readings, climb stairs and a fair amount of walking and outdoor activity, in both hot and cold weather, is required. Operators are also involved in carbon loading and removal which can be a physically demanding activity. May need to operate vacuum truck on site frequently and for long periods of time.
Main Responsibilities
- Responsible for the safe efficient operation of boilers, waste water treatment system, ground water treatment
- Ensure daily chemical additions and water treatment tests are correct and providing optimum conditions for boilers and water systems
- Perform routine daily inspections and record results and findings
- Perform preventative maintenance and some minor repairs to various operating systems
- Perform routine inspections on refrigeration systems
- Add/remove carbon from the wastewater and groundwater systems
- Help maintenance crews in various maintenance related activities for steam, wastewater and ground water operations
- Use vacuum truck whenever required
- Should be comfortable working as Board Operator and Field operator
Requirements
- A valid 4th class Operating Engineer certificate
- A valid driving license is a must
- Knowledge of natural gas fired boilers/ steam generator systems
- Knowledge of waste water treatment systems.
- Responsible to follow all corporate safety related policies and procedures
- Good communication skills both verbally and written
- Refrigeration knowledge and mechanical aptitude would be an asset
- Rotating and weekend shift coverage required
