The Elmira facility is a state of the art production facility used to manufacture synthetic lubricants and additives for lubricants, plastics and rubber. In addition to the main production facilities we have a comprehensive wastewater treatment system that is used to treat all of the process wastewater that is generated on site, and a groundwater treatment system to remove historic contaminants prior to discharge. The Elmira site is also home to a pilot plant, which is used by our scientists and engineers to develop and test new products and production processes.
Situated on 75 acres (of which 22 acres are used for operations), the manufacturing facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our hourly employees are represented by the United Steelworkers Union.
The West Hill facility began its operations in 1962, The first operation at the West Hill site consisted of a custom blending facility for a major Canadian oil and gas company. In 1992, the property at 565 Coronation Drive was purchased. It currently houses offices, a research and development laboratory and a finished goods warehouse.
Today, around 100 employees work at the West Hill facility where we manufacture Grease and Specialty Additives. Our grease is used to keep machinery running smoothly in food processing, manufacturing, marine, power generation and many other industries. Our Specialty Additives and lubricants are used in automotive, marine and aviation oils, transmission fluids and fuels to enhance performance and extend engine life.
Both sites (Elmira and West Hill) are registered under the ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 14001 environmental management standards.
Job Highlights
The Mechanical Integrity Specialist is accountable for ensuring that an effective maintenance program is in place for the site, and act as the company representative to the TSSA for piping and vessel repairs, alterations or new installations. The MI Specialist develops the program, including but not limited to defining the technical requirements of the inspection, scope, frequency and conducts analyses on the effectiveness of the program. This includes the Mechanical Integrity program for the site and all reporting requirements. The MI Specialist will be responsible for retaining the proper consultants and contractors to conduct testing of items such as storage tanks, pressure vessels, piping systems, hoists and cranes, safety valves, electrical systems, vibration, thermography and other items as necessary.
Main Responsibilities
- Accountable for the effectiveness of the Elmira Mechanical Integrity (MI) Program
- Responsible for maintaining the Mechanical Integrity schedule and ensuring all inspections are performed according to LANXESS directives and TSSA standards and guidelines
- Manage the Owner User program with TSSA in conjunction with the Engineering team. Provide direction and guidance on legislation around pressure vessels, piping systems, and other TSSA related items
- Maintain all documents pertaining to the Mechanical Integrity program in accordance with the TSSA guidelines, and the LANXESS Document management directive
- Manage and maintain the Elmira site annual lifting device inspection program, and other regulatory inspections as required.
- Arrange and work in conjunction with the Engineering and Maintenance teams on all repairs and recommendations from Mechanical Integrity inspections
- Work with the maintenance department personal to ensure that maintenance work is completed within the regulations of our owner/user manual and within our piping systems
- Work with the LANXESS insurance provider as required
- Ensure that all records, drawings, and permits will be maintained as per the LANXESS guidelines.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- P.Eng Professional designation a plus
- 5 to 10 years previous experience in a similar role
- Practical mechanical experience with pressure vessels and TSSA regulations, and/or other regulatory agencies.
- Extensive knowledge of equipment reliability principles including preventive, predictive, and KPI's
- Excellent problem solving, communication and planning skills
- Project management skill an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel and SharePoint.
- Sound organizational skills with the ability to manage a constantly changing workload.
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of an organization; effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid Driver’s license
