The Elmira facility is a state of the art production facility used to manufacture synthetic lubricants and additives for lubricants, plastics and rubber. In addition to the main production facilities we have a comprehensive wastewater treatment system that is used to treat all of the process wastewater that is generated on site, and a groundwater treatment system to remove historic contaminants prior to discharge. The Elmira site is also home to a pilot plant, which is used by our scientists and engineers to develop and test new products and production processes.
Situated on 75 acres (of which 22 acres are used for operations), the manufacturing facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our hourly employees are represented by the United Steelworkers Union.
The West Hill facility began its operations in 1962, The first operation at the West Hill site consisted of a custom blending facility for a major Canadian oil and gas company. In 1992, the property at 565 Coronation Drive was purchased. It currently houses offices, a research and development laboratory and a finished goods warehouse.
Today, around 100 employees work at the West Hill facility where we manufacture Grease and Specialty Additives. Our grease is used to keep machinery running smoothly in food processing, manufacturing, marine, power generation and many other industries. Our Specialty Additives and lubricants are used in automotive, marine and aviation oils, transmission fluids and fuels to enhance performance and extend engine life.
Both sites (Elmira and West Hill) are registered under the ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 14001 environmental management standards.
Job Highlights
- Assist and support the LAB Global PCT Manager to develop and/or implement standards and technical requirements for all LAB sites, aligned with the requirements of the PCT Global Competence Centre.
- Provide technical expertise and assistance to LAB sites in the implementation of PCT Functional Safety initiatives. This includes providing technical support to site PCT engineers and PPS colleagues during HAZOP reviews and supporting the creation and/or validation of all Functional Safety documentation as required.
- Provide expertise and support to site PCT engineers in the deployment, commissioning, and functional verification of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS). Provide Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) programming and on-going support to respective sites.
- Provide engineering and technical support for PCT capital projects at LAB sites, ensuring that the projects are executed according to LANXESS project management guidelines and standards.
- Consult with site PCT personnel to identify relevant Process Optimization opportunities with the purpose of empowering the workforce and optimizing operations at specific sites. Facilitate with site personnel to develop and implement these opportunities in a cost effective and safe manner. These opportunities are related to:
- Support site PCT engineers in the development of S-88 batch methodologies that align with business goals/objectives to streamline process operations that improve process quality and yield, while reducing raw material usage and energy. Provide support and guidance to site PCT engineers to successfully implement and deliver these strategies and methodologies.
- Support site personnel to gain insight, select, and develop relevant advanced control and AI opportunities within a particular process.
- Aid site PCT engineers and maintenance engineers to recognize and employ predictive intelligence technologies to determine asset health and utilize predictive analytics to improve equipment reliability at the site.
- Assist and provide guidance to sites to ensure that their critical OT infrastructure is secure, dependable and complaint with LANXESS and industry standards.
- Support site engineers in developing process control strategies, specifying, and selecting specific field instrumentation to implement these strategies.
Requirements
- Certified FSE and/or able to demonstrate competence in the field of Functional Safety.
- High level and wide range of PCT knowledge and experience.
- Project management experience, with an elevated level of accuracy and diligence.
- Knowledgeable and understanding to seamlessly deploy automation strategies to maximize benefits at the site with minimum impact.
- Must have good interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to interact at all organizational levels.
- Engineering degree with 5 year's PCT engineering experience OR Technologist Diploma + 10 year's PCT engineering experience.
