Job Highlights

This position executes lab testing as required to assure product quality.

  • Accurately perform routine and non-routine in-process and finished polymer testing
  • (Thermoplastic Materials). Examples include:
    • operation of injection molding machine
    • mechanical testing (e.g. impact strength, bending strength)
    • viscosity testing (e.g. MVR, solution viscosity)
    • other physical testing (moisture, ash content etc.)
  • Record results in appropriate database and report data in a timely manner.
  • Have knowledge of all in-process and finished product tests as well as test schedules.
  • Maintains required lab equipment and supplies. Insures cleanliness and good housekeeping of lab areas.
  • Perform additional testing as required to cover unusual sample loads, customer issues, limited personnel, etc.
  • Interact with the other unit personnel to complete all required testing in a timely manner and to also handle non-routine communications.
  • Monitor instrument performance (Standards, Control Samples, SPC, etc.
  • Knowledge and use of site/work area HES procedures and work practices at all times
  • Maintaining a clean and uncluttered work area.
  • Immediate reporting of incidents, injuries, illnesses, exposures (e.g. to chemicals) and near hits.
  • Immediate correction and/or reporting of all hazardous acts and conditions.
  • Cooperation and participation in the site HES Performance Indicator programs core elements including work area inspections, job safety analyses/observations, training and meetings.

Requirements

  • Former lab testing experience recommended with one year experience
  • Minimum High School graduate. Some college coursework or two-year degree preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of hazardous materials and the appropriate handling and disposal of such products preferred
  • Requires quick learning and flexibility on the job
  • Requires a self-starter
  • Requires excellent attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • SAP and previous LIMS experience preferred, but not required
  • Willing to work in a team environment
  • Requires basic knowledge of statistics including control charting
  • Superior oral and written communication and comprehension skills
  • Knowledge of ISO Quality and Responsible Care standards preferred
  • Familiarity with and ability to use MS Office software (Word, Excel). SAP experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with polymer pigmenting and coloring of polymers a plus, but not required.
  • This position should be prepared to work any shift
