Job Highlights

The position operates the production equipment. The nature of this role is to operate the plant machinery on shift to allow the safe, environmentally responsible, maximum production.

  • Operate the extruder and associated equipment.
  • Assist with maintenance tasks.
  • Housekeeping of work areas.
  • Safety: Perform work safely and by procedure. Make all safety equipment checks required.
  • Maintain accurate records and logs.
  • Troubleshooting of operational problems.
  • Unload raw materials and insure proper make-up’s as required by recipes.
  • Properly handle finished product including packaging, truck loading, and transportation to warehouse.
  • Perform quality activities as required including taking samples and laboratory activities.
  • Expected to help shift-mates with production-related tasks when not otherwise occupied with maintenance duties.
  • During the construction and commissioning phase of the project, work on tasks and project components as assigned.

The position is accountable for performing job functions in accordance with the site and corporate Responsible Care® initiatives including Health, Environment, Safety and Security (RC-HESS), which includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities:

  • Knowledge and use of site/work area HES procedures and work practices at all times
  • Maintaining a clean and uncluttered work area.
  • Immediate reporting of incidents, injuries, illnesses, exposures (e.g. to chemicals) and near hits.
  • Immediate correction and/or reporting of all hazardous acts and conditions.
  • Cooperation and participation in the site HES Performance Indicator programs core elements including work area inspections, job safety analyses/observations, training and meetings.

Requirements

  • 2-year certificate or Associate Degree in a manufacturing-related discipline; polymer or plastics processing background is preferred. Alternatively a 2-year degree from an accredited school of  instrumentation and/or electronics, OR Associate Degree in Industrial Technology or other mechanical discipline. Must have graduated prior to beginning work. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • The ideal candidate has formal training in polymer or plastics processing and/or formal electrical or mechanical training as noted above. The ideal candidate combines training or experience in two of the three following areas: Manufacturing/electronics/mechanical maintenance.
  • Candidates must demonstrate flexibility and willingness to learn additional skills as noted above.
  • Previous compounding or plastics manufacturing experience a plus.
  • Requires flexibility and ability to handle stress well with regard to production requirements.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting, pushing and pulling of heavy equipment; must be physically capable of climbing.
  • Current Fork truck license/certification or experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with and ability to use MS Office software (Word, Excel)
  • Candidates should be aware that shift system will start as an 8-hour shift, but may increase later to a 12-hour shift system with expected increasing production.
