Job Highlights

 

The I&E supervisor oversees all Instrumentation and Electrical maintenance activities at the Kalama plant. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, the I&E Supervisor provides leadership and technical expertise to ensure the safe and reliable operation of instrumentation and electrical systems. This role supervises a team of Electricians, Instrument Technicians, and external contractors, while collaborating closely with Process Control Engineers and the Site Electrical Engineer to maintain compliance with regulatory standards and certification requirements. The I&E Supervisor will ensure all duties in their area are performed in a way that aligns with operational objectives and supports the site’s health, safety, environmental, quality, food safety, and reliability standards. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the I&E maintenance team.
  • Ensure the timely completion of Preventative Maintenance (PM) work orders for instrumentation and electrical systems, including calibration, loop checks, and function tests. Oversee Mechanical Integrity activities related to I&E equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Utilize technical expertise to troubleshoot complex instrumentation and electrical issues, providing guidance and support to maintenance personnel as needed. Maintain proficiency in ABB or similar Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Allen Bradley systems, Hart communications, and other relevant technologies. Demonstrate knowledge of low voltage control power, low voltage electrical power, and medium voltage electrical power systems.
  • Work with Process Control Engineers and the Site Electrical Engineer to ensure that all documentation, equipment files, test records, etc., are maintained and up-to-date. Ensure compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations and ISO 9001 certification requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Planner and Scheduler to prioritize and schedule I&E maintenance activities, optimizing resource utilization and minimizing downtime. Manage inventory and spare parts for instrumentation and electrical systems, ensuring availability and proper storage.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains within the I&E maintenance function. Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance equipment reliability and performance. Participate in root cause analysis investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.

Requirements

 

  • Minimum requirement is associate's degree and/or equivalent certifications in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Controls Systems disciplines. Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of field experience in instrumentation and electrical maintenance within a chemical manufacturing or similar environment.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience, demonstrating strong leadership, and mentorship skills.
  • Experience working in a facility with a Union hourly workforce.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders. 
  • Functional knowledge of instrumentation, electrical, and process controls equipment, including repair and maintenance methods.
  • Strong working knowledge of chemical of chemical manufacturing systems and processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, electrical drawings, schematics, and equipment drawings, safety procedures, including state and federal OSHA guidelines.
  • Proficiency in development and use of a Maintenance CMMS.  SAP experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.

In accordance with Washington State law, the established pay range for this position is Min: $88,400 to Max: $147,400. Please note, the actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education, and skill level.
