Job Highlights

This position is responsible for leading, managing, and coordination of personnel safety, environmental compliance, maintenance and operational performance of the Specialties and Shipping Departments. There will be additional responsibilities including the Scheduling and Logistics functions of the site.  Duties include but are not limited to:   

  • Lead a team of six direct reports. 
  • Manage the performance of the Specialties and Shipping departments to meet legal requirements, LANXESS policies regarding personnel safety and environmental compliance.   This requires close coordination with the Site HSE and Maintenance Departments in a proactive manner.
  • Manage the performance of the Specialties and Shipping departments to meet targets for on time production and shipping, quality, yield loss and operating costs.  Identify opportunities for improvement and work with other teams to facilitate continuous improvements in Department and Site Performance.  This includes leading ISO9001 and ISO14001 efforts in responsible areas.
  • Provide guidance and input to development of capital projects and capital plans.
  • Lead and support investigations into incidents and problems in responsible areas.  Contribute to team efforts.
  • Be an active participant in the leadership team of Kalama to drive compliance and improvements in a proactive manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering or related field.  Master's Degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong skills in leadership, management, team building and conflict resolution with union and non-union personnel.
  • Ability to develop department culture that is safe, proactive and efficient.  
  • Ability to work with multiple organizational levels from shop floor to executive level.  
  • Experience with Unit Operations including batch and continuous reaction and distillation operations.  
  • Experience with drumming and packaging operations, shipping and logistics operations.  
  • Be a change agent for continuous improvements in safety, compliance, costs, material variances, and capital projects and lean operations.
  • OSHA PSM Plant experience is required.
  • Working knowledge of ISO9001 required, ISO14001 a plus.
  • Experience with APICS/CLTD concepts a plus.
  • Excellent computer skills including SAP/4Hana, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).  Will also use OSI-PI and other company applications.
