Job Highlights

  • Apply understanding of elastomer performance, prepolymers, curatives, and other formulation aspects, solving problems in urethane performance and processing. Develop new tests if necessary, such as the development of physical property tests for rebonded foam efforts.
  • Explore new market areas as part of cross functional “strategy teams”. Contribute to team thinking in terms of the technical knowledge and capabilities that can be applied. Seek strong understanding of unmet needs and focus development efforts to exploit these.
  • Advance our formulations capability in new market categories with different needs, such as the rebonded foam market. Demonstrate formulation advantages.
  • Recognize opportunities to patent formulation compositions and application ideas/successes. Highlight these to TS&D director and IP counsel, and establish potential value and path for exploration.
  • Bridge the gap between R&D and Applications, developing new prepolymers on a lab scale for specific application projects to accelerate programs within the TS&D group.
  • Develop strong customer relationships and manage a significant portfolio of technical service needs for these customers. Follow service policy guidelines in most cases, recognizing and highlighting more attractive opportunities for approval on an exception basis. Work with TS&D director to balance work load vs AD priorities, and ensure our time is used to best advantage.
  • Provide trip reports and highlights to the Urethanes organization. Contribute to our global knowledge base and understanding of polyurethanes. Publish Application Development reports in areas of significant development.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science is required, advanced degrees a plus.
  • Ideally 3 to 5 years of chemical indutry experience, supporting polymer research and formulations.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability guide others. Individual needs to be approachable by customers and employees with a wide range of backgrounds and skills.
  • Ability to lead the team in solving application issues via formulation, and in recognizing needs that have a high vs low chance of being solved.
  • Solid knowledge of the URE product line, their processing needs and pitfalls. Ability to recommend specific products and processing.
  • Ability to synthesize new prepolymer formulations for particular needs.
  • Position has ability for hybrid work schedule, typically 4 days on-site, 1 day working from home each week.

  • Compensation: We offer competitive compensation packages, inclusive of a global bonus program and an individual performance bonus program. The established pay range for this position is $85,000 to $115,000. Please note, the actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education, and skill level.
