Job Highlights

 

 

  • Classify hazards according to US OSHA and Canadian WHMIS GHS classificarion and labeling requirments, as well as state and local regulations. Develop, review and maintain safety data sheets (SDSs) and hazard warning labels in the SAP Environmental Health and Safety System  in compliance with U.S. OSHA, Canadian WHMIS, and  applicable state and local regulations and standards required for Lanxess products manufactured, imported, and marketed in the US and Canada.
  • Ensure SDS is clear, comprehensive and  compliant with US OSHA, Department of Transportation (DOT), EPA Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), State Right-to-Know Laws, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, and Canadian DSL, as they apply to Lanxess products manufactured, imported and marketed in the US and Canada.
  • Monitor and assess the impact of changes in US and Canadian regulations (e.g..US OSHA, DOT, EPA TSCA, Canadian DSL, State Right-to-Know Laws, RCRA, CERCLA, state and local regulations)  on hazard classifications and labels of Lanxess products manufactured, imported and marketed in the US and Canada.  Collaborate with the business to develop a management of change plan to implement the changes and communicate with US and Canadian manufacturing sites and customers. Leverage advocacy collaboration with the US American Chemistry Council as appropriate.
  • Participate in reviewing health and safety literature and assist in product stewardship and product advocacy with US American Chemistry Council. 
  • Respond to customers on US and Canadian hazard classification, labels and the interpretation of US, Canadian, state and local regulations.
  • Update product composition changes and substance hazard classification changes. Update SDSs and labels as appropriate and collaborate with the business in implementing and communicating changes to Lanxess manufacturing sites and customers in the US and Canada.
  • Participate in various projects supporting PSRA, the business, or manufacturing sites in the US and Canada on regulatory updates, process impovements, and workflow management.

Requirements

 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of 3 years experience -  Major of Chemistry, Biology or Related Science with at least 1 year of Chemistry.  Master’s degree in science, engineering, or other health-related field is preferred. 
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Ability to communicate effectively both up and down the organization and to relate proactively with US and Canadian manufacturing sites,  customers and other companies and industry, governmental and non-governmental organization representatives in the US and Canada
  • Excellent presentation (both written and oral) and interpersonal communication skills are necessary                                
  • Specialized problem-solving skills are needed for evaluation of hazard and exposure data to do risk characterization
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Experience in chemical health and safety preferred
  • Knowledge of US and Canadian hazard communication, toxicology, exposure/risk characterization, effective presentation skills, and chemical identification is preferred
  • Knowledge of current US, Canadian, state and local regulatory requirements under such statutes and regulations as the following is highly preferred: OSHA Hazard Communication Standard, Toxic Substances Control Act, transportation classification, State Right-to-Know Laws, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act
  • Strong Computer Skills -  Microsoft Suite and specialized databases,  SAP EHS  experience a plus
