Job Highlights

  • Supervise and prioritize the work of a team of Procurement Managers / Specialists directly supporting the BUs in North America
  • Ensure compliance of established departmental objectives with regard to supplier evaluations, sustainability initiatives, supplier visit reports, cost reduction reporting, etc. using the appropriate Lanxess tools.
  • Provide regional category strategy leadership in major inorganic, organic, and aromatic categories as assigned.  Develop and recommend short and long term procurement strategies aimed at meeting BU material requirements in a manner that provides security of supply of cost-competitive materials.
  • Manage ongoing relationships with suppliers’ sales and business leaders
  • Analyze market structure, trends, technical developments and regulatory trends that impact competitiveness and/or affect availability and delivered cost of raw materials
  • Coordinate strategies within GPL regionally or globally to enhance corporate buying power and lead the effective implementation of such strategies.
  • Establish contracts from initial negotiation (including pricing, terms & conditions, scope of work, etc.) through final agreement, with the approval of the appropriate LANXESS PRO and BU/GF leadership.
  • Negotiate resolution of disputes, changes in scope and raw material price changes where applicable.
  • Communicate procurement strategies to internal stakeholders and present a “one voice” message to potential suppliers to conduct fair and effective bid processes; implement transition plans for new supplier programs to ensure procurement strategy execution.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • A minimum of 7 years relevant strategic procurement and/or commercial contracting experience or an MBA with 5 years of relevant experience is required. Professional Certification (C.P.M., CPSM) is a plus. 
  • Knowledge of basic chemical manufacturing processes and of the major factors that influence markets and prices for the major materials are within the position’s responsibility.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) are required.
  • Solid market knowledge and ability to quickly become recognized internally and externally as knowledgeable in the supply markets for inorganic, organic and aromatic chemicals.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver persuasive argumentation in pricing and contract negotiations is essential to the achievement of LANXESS’ objectives.
  • The ability to influence and persuade individuals at all levels of the LANXESS organization to gain support for key procurement initiatives.
  • Thorough understanding of the legal requirements and sensitivity of commercial contract law.
  • Proven organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to organize diverse information, analyze and resolve disputes, understand internal customer requirements, make independent decisions, and display strong interpersonal and communication skills with individuals at all levels of LXS and supplier organizations.
  • The ability to work professionally and effectively with Business Unit leaders
  • Strong analytical skills and high skill level using Power Point, Excel, as well as the ability to quickly master internal LANXESS tools such as: SAP BW reports, supplier and contract databases, e-sourcing platform
