Job Highlights

  • Analyze market structure, trends, technical developments and regulatory trends that impact competitiveness and/or affect availability and delivered cost of materials and services.
  • Develop and recommend short and long term procurement strategies aimed at meeting Business Unit / Group Function technical good requirements in a manner that provides security of supply of timely and cost competitive materials or services of appropriate quality.
  • Coordinate strategies within Global Procurement and Logistics (GPL) regionally and globablly to enhance corporate buying power and lead the effective implementation of such strategies.
  • Communicate procurement stategies to stakeholders and present a "one voice" message to potential suppliers to conduct fair and effective bid processes.
  • Manage and direct work of four strategic commodity leads.
  • Maintain and manage high level relationships with strategic suppliers.
  • Lead and/or actively participate in regional and global task forces, and interdisciplinary project groups responsible for devising strategies and optimizing performance in procurement related areas.
  • Communicate plans and roll-out new supplier programs to fully implement procurement strategies.
  • Comply with all established departmental objectives with regards to supplier evaluations, supplier visit reports, cost savings reporting, etc.
  • Plan for and lead a responsive procurement effort for the Crisis Team when activated.
  • Ensure KPI commitments of team are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or technical degree is required, Master's or PhD a plus.
  • 10 plus years of relevant technical goods/technical services/energy and packaging procurement experience (all categories or a combination of these). Professional Certification is a plus. 
  • Knowledge of basic chemical plants, major manufacturers/service providers and of the major factors that influence applicable commodity markets and prices is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing multicultural teams and experience with international teams is a plus.
  • To establish relationships and understand requirements of various plant sites involved, initial frequency and duration of travel might be more than normally required. Estimated travel expectation is 30%.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to present strategy documentation to senior management to get buy in for the strategy, are required.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver persuasive argumentation in pricing and contract negotiations is required.
  • Thorough understanding of the typical language found in procurement contracts and sensitivity to the clauses having particular importance to the organization is essential and also have basic knowledge of engineering terminology/general category of equipment.
  • The ability to organize diverse information, analyze and resolve disputes, understand internal customer requirements, and make independent decisions..
  • Basic understanding of management accounting principles and financial analysis skills are essential.  Understanding of chemical processes, engineering or construction processes is a strong plus.
  • Strong analytical skills and matching skill level using Power Point, Excel, SAP /ERP reports, e-sourcing tools etc.
