Job Highlights

This role creates a competitive advantage and limit exposure for LANXESS through the strategic sourcing of general services, supplies, travel and IT  required by LANXESS. The incumbent must:

  • Collaborate with business units and group functions to identify opportunities to develop and implement strategic initiatives that result in significant cost reduction.
  • Analyse spend data across LXS entities to identify sourcing opportunities which could benefit these internal customers.
  • Liaise with global category procurement teams and site procurement team to identify sourcing synergies
  • Fully understand the BU or GF’s requirements in order to effectively negotiate  appropriate contract terms, conditions and pricing.
  • Work with BU and other internal customers to identify goods/associated services which can be entered as a framework contract thereby enhancing automation.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions which limit Lanxess‘ financial and legal risks, and which are enforceable under the applicable law of contract.
  • Resolve problems dealing with interpretation of existing contracts which may have significant financial impact (i.e. meet/release conditions, tier discounts, price formula analysis).
  • Ensure that procurement support of the business units or group functions is such that all required products and services are of an acceptable quality, in the correct quantity and are delivered in a timely manner.


We are seeking the following attributes:

  • BS in Supply Chain/Finance or Business Administration with advantage for MBA
  • 10 years relevant GSSTIT experience or an MBA/MS with 5 years of relevant strategic procurement experience is required. Professional Certification is a plus. 
  • To establish relationships and understand requirements of various plant sites and offices involved, initial frequency and duration of travel might be more than normally required. Estimated travel expectation is 30%.
  • Knowledge of IT and general services/supplies and of the major factors that influence technical commodity markets and prices is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) are required.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver persuasive argumentation in pricing and contract negotiations is required.
  • The ability to influence and persuade individuals at all levels of the LANXESS organization to gain support for key procurement initiatives.
  • Thorough understanding of the typical language found in procurement contracts and sensitivity to the clauses having particular importance to the buyer is essential and also have basic knowledge of engineering terminology/general category of equipment
  • Proven organizational skills to manage multiple projects and bids simultaneously, with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to organize diverse information, analyze and resolve disputes, understand internal customer requirements, make independent decisions, and display strong interpersonal and communication skills with individuals at all levels of LXS and supplier organizations.
  • Basic understanding of management accounting principles and financial analysis skills are essential.  Understanding of chemical processes, engineering or construction processes is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills and matching skill level using Power Point, Excel, SAP /ERP reports, e-sourcing tools etc
  • Ability to present strategy documentation to senior management to get buy in for the strategy
