Job Highlights

  • Provide support for site and corporate EHS&S initiatives in the journey to create an “incident-free” culture.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental, health and safety legislation, including the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, O. Reg. 851, and O. Reg. 347, by managing site permits and delivering accurate, on-time regulatory reporting.
  • Manage site waste handling activities including classification, tracking, disposal and coordination of minimization efforts.
  • Support and contribute to the continuous improvement of the RC 14001 Responsible Care® management system by developing, implementing, and maintaining site-specific EHS&S policies and procedures.
  • Support EHS incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are identified, tracked, and implemented in a timely manner.
  • Support the development and implementation of emergency response plans, and coordinate evacuation and emergency drills to ensure site readiness and compliance.
  • Participate in risk identification using tools such as JSAs (Job Safety Analyses) to ensure appropriate controls are established.
  • Provide technical support to the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC).
  • Prepare EHS incident alerts and information for toolbox talks to ensure effective communication of potential hazards by supervisors to front line employees.
  • Develop and, where appropriate, deliver EHS&S training programs covering the facility’s safety policies and procedures, new employee and contractor orientation, and required regulatory training.
  • Assist in industrial hygiene projects and activities.

Experience / Skills

  • College or university education in Occupational Health & Safety/ Environmental Sciences or related disciplines. Preference given to those candidates with or eligible for a CRSP designation.
  • 3-5 years practical environmental, health and safety experience, preferably in the chemical manufacturing industry.
  • Working knowledge of EHS management systems such as Intelex, EHS Velocity, or Cority.
  • In-depth knowledge of Ontario and Federal environment, health and safety regulations.
  • Working knowledge of industrial hygiene principles and exposure assessment
  • Proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel and SharePoint. Working knowledge of SAP a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a constantly changing workload.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Today, around 100 employees work at the West Hill facility where we manufacture Grease and Specialty Additives. Our grease is used to keep machinery running smoothly in food processing, manufacturing, marine, power generation and many other industries. Our Specialty Additives and lubricants are used in automotive, marine and aviation oils, transmission fluids and fuels to enhance performance and extend engine life.

Both sites (Elmira and West Hill) are registered under the ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 14001 environmental management standards.
