LANXESS UK is now recruiting a Day Technician to join us at our Trafford Park site!

About the role:

The Day Technician is a vital member of the site operations team, supporting safe, efficient, and compliant plant activities under the direction of the Day Team Manager. The role is responsible for material movements—including offloading raw materials and loading finished goods—while ensuring all work meets Upper Tier COMAH safety and regulatory standards.

The Day Technician also provides cover for the Boiler House Day Technician during sickness and holidays. The role works closely with Production, Planning/Scheduling, Logistics, and Maintenance to maintain smooth material flow, accurate SAP transactions, and clear communication of any delays or constraints. Additionally, the Day Technician supports routine operations and planned maintenance by preparing equipment, ensuring safe systems of work, and upholding high operational standards.

Main Responsibilities

• Safely offload raw materials and load finished goods, operating pumps, hoses, and forklifts to manage material flow.

• Complete accurate documentation, sampling, product checks, and SAP transactions.

• Perform daily plant checks, equipment prep, housekeeping, and support utilities (Boiler House, Hot Oil, Cooling Towers, Air Compressors).

• Follow all safety, PPE, environmental, and COMAH requirements; participate in inspections, drills, and permit-to-work processes.

• Communicate effectively with Production, Planning, Logistics, and Maintenance; coordinate with drivers and contractors.

• Promote safe working standards and support new team members.

 

 

Experience / Skills

 

About You!

Essential Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of material handling processes and equipment.

• Ability to carry out SAP transactions accurately.

• Knowledge of COMAH controls and safe systems of work.

• Experience with pumps, hoses, transfer systems, and plant utilities.

Preferred Experience & Certifications

• NVQ Level 2–3 (Process Operations, Engineering, Logistics or related field).

• Experience in industrial, chemical, or COMAH regulated environments.

• Forklift (FLT), tanker loading, or similar operational qualifications.

• Boiler House (City & Guilds / BOAS), cooling tower operations, Legionella awareness, or hot oil system familiarity.

Soft Skills

• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

• High attention to detail and disciplined documentation.

• Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and problem solve effectively.

• Proactive, safety focused mindset.

Other Requirements

• Monday–Friday availability with some flexibility.

• Physically capable of outdoor/manual handling tasks.

• Willingness to undertake ongoing training and competency assessments

• Ability and willingness to participate fully in site emergency response duties, including completing breathing apparatus (BA) training and using BA equipment to support emergency response activities when required.
